It would be unrealistic to expect teachers to keep apace of this change in its broadest sense; what is important is that they are aware of key developments which impact on the classroom and the wider school community. The most significant challenges teachers face are money and time. This means that teachers have an additional layer of planning and resourcing to consider, should it all go wrong. TG: In the early days of edtech the main inhibitor to adoption was money. Devices, software and their associated infrastructure, were prohibitively expensive. Now that, in the main, most students have suitable personal devices and the institutions have perfectly adequate infrastructure the main disinhibitor is fear.

It was a great opportunity to learn from a lot of the big names in ELT , but there was an element of panic too. My talk centred around using video in the classroom and the creation of video on mobile devices to develop oral skills. The main points were:. I have no doubt that once I start to go through the notes I made, and start looking deeper into the ideas that were shared throughout, that I will billow out and fly high again….
Here is a snippet of what I learnt from the minute talks, demo lessons and speed dating. It was interesting to observe the student interaction and of course see a seasoned teacher in action! I am currently supporting two teachers on The Developing Teacher course at Oxford Tefl, which is allowing me to share and learn teaching practice ideas.
I really enjoy observing other teachers because it enables me to become aware of my own teaching practice, and consider different ways of doing things. For me, teaching is all about learning. Experienced investor Volker Hirsch said Tech Manchester could galvanise the tech community after Meet the Mentor event. A not-for-profit initiative aimed at connecting tech start-ups with potential mentors was hailed as a success this week. More than individual mentor conversations took place over a minute period at UKFast Campus, just south of Manchester city centre. Among the businesses who attended the event on Wednesday, a total of 45 start-ups asked to be matched up with mentors.
Each start-up chose five mentors in order of preference. The mentors will then receive a list of their requested start-ups and choose the one they feel best meets their skills and personality. We had four areas across all floors in the UKFast Campus alive with thought-provoking conversation.

We have prepared many surprises and interactive activities with fun prizes on the spot! For many teachers, edtech conferences are a major highlight of the school year and a great opportunity to connect with fellow educators. The exhibition part is also one of the best ways -if not the best- to find new ed tech solutions. From lesson creation to assessment and gamification, there is something for K schools, universities, vocational schools, and so on depending on the purpose of the conference.
Not to mention 3D printing, AR and robots! Annually, a conference can draw in hundreds if not thousands of exhibitors and as many as 30, participants! On the flipside, it also means that teachers, ed tech specialists or principals can easily get overwhelmed by the amount of tools and new information. In fact, information overload is a very real phenomenon that can make it very hard to make a good decision when it comes to choosing the right solutions.
So besides packing their bags, laptops, agendas and passports, teachers can do a little extra something: their pre conference homework. In order to get the most out of your time, here are some steps to help you navigate the exhibition area like a pro:. Why are you attending the exhibition in the first place?
